My Review:
Overall: 4.0
Performance: 4.5
Story: 3.5

In this installment of the Chicagoland Vampires, it's Valentines Day, but rather than getting to enjoy a romantic night with her love, Merit is tracking down malcontents...groups of humans rioting around the city against vampires. Of course that's not all there is to the story...there's also Malory who is trying to figure out where she goes next as a witch who still doesn't trust her magic. There's Jonah, who's dating. There's the new part of the city government, McKittrick, which no one trusts. Oh, and there's another of the city's vampire house's who have to move into Cadigan house temporarily. It's normal vampire chaos...something Merit should be used to at this point.

But this world was thrust upon her, and she still has moments where she misses the days when she was simply a normal college student...not fighting for her life and her house and her love. The last ten months have given her quite a dramatic change to her life.

I continue to enjoy the series. I have to admit, I'm so glad I took a break from it for a while. Because before I was about ready to give it up entirely. Now it feels fresh and I'm enjoying listening to the books so much more. I already have #9 loaded into my iPod. I can't wait to start it tomorrow.

And I do recommend these on audio. The narrator is brilliant and I love her many, many, many voices. This is a diverse cast of characters and Sophie Eastlake does a brilliant job with all of them. I love her narration.

Biting Bad Chicagoland Vampires Chloe Neill 9780451415189 Books Reviews

BITING BAD was another good installment in the Chicagoland Vampires Series, but it did have that filler book vibe to me in a way, maybe I felt like the plot wasn’t all that this time around, but I still enjoyed it like always. Merit and Ethan are planning to celebrate Valentine’s day, but so much crap is going on again that they have to put it on pause, like riots all relating to vampires, and Merit and Ethan having to visit Merit’s family for dinner.

With the plot this time with the riots, a couple of chapters in I had already figured out all of who was involved, so I didn’t like that it ended up being that obvious only a short time into the book. Anyway, in BITING BAD we get to get to know the Grey House a little bit more. I have been a big fan of that House since we got introduced to Jonah and I wanted to know more about him and Grey House and I’m glad we got that. I loved learning a little bit more about the Vampire Master of Grey House, Scott as well!

We still have cute Merit and Ethan moments. GP drama, which I hope in the next couple of book that the GP nonsense ends, it’s getting a little old that centuries old vampire acting like spoiled little brats. And I just really enjoyed all main and side characters a like. I especially love the Ethan. Gabriel. And the car bit. Men and their cars.

But I have a major rant here! Ethan battles a vampire that he ends up killing in battle and the CPD aka Humans come to arrest him?! Seriously?! You can’t arrest a vampire! If the other guy killed Ethan he wouldn’t be charged with anything, But seriously Humans! Vampire Rule is different and has nothing to do with humans! I’m just saying that was the dumbest ending ever. I’m disappointed in the ending. Other than the ridiculous excuse for a cliffhanger ending the rest was really good. Looking forward to see what transpires next.
There are so many stories out there that have amazing chemistry between the two protagonists but that seems to stop once the relationship is established. It's as if the creation of a relationship is more important than its continuation and sustainability. Today there is a trend among authors to keep things going beyond the initial frenzy of first love and instead incorporate life as a couple into the continued storyline. To me to adds to a series regardless of genre and Chloe Neill brings it to urban fantasy and does it very, very well.

This latest installment brings so many threads together. The trials of dealing with growing prejudice and hatred of vampires, of dealing with international vampire politics and Cadogan House's radical steps to free themselves of the suffocating yoke of the GP's control, and lastly of personal vendettas and greed. All of which make for excellent storytelling.

There were some personal tragedies and changes to established relationships which I enjoyed. I was sad to see a cliffhanger ending though as I am not a huge fan of them. I prefer a sense of completion when I finish a book so that irritated me but not enough to lower the stars. As always read these in order. 5 stars!
I first read this book back in 2013 when it was first published, but I wasn't writing reviews then, in fact, I didn't even read them. Now that I do, I know how important they are, both to the authors and the readers. I just finished rereading this one, loved it even better the second time around, and looked at the reviews at the website. The first one had one star and a long diatribe about it only being a "filler book," and no story, not worth the price, etc. The second one was hardly better, saying it was written for juveniles. Honey, I've been reading this series since the first book, and I have enjoyed every one of them, this one included. Ethan is alive, and he and Merit are together, still fighting for Chicago's humans as well as their vampires! With all they have survived, that alone is a miracle. Plus we got to check in on so many old friends, and solve a mystery that had everyone stumped, cops included. There were laughs and plot twists aplenty, and in the midst of all that, this author manages to write the hottest sex scenes I've ever read, and without a single vulgar word. There's not a doubt in the reader's mind that these two people love each other passionately, and will protect each other, as well as any other creatures that come to them, seeking help. They are truly "the good guys," who give us all hope that there can be a future worth living in. And in the end, hope is a fine thing to have.
