I enjoy reading series books, and thought one that revolved around a dog (though I admit I'm not an animal lover) was unusual enough for me to give it a try. From the very beginning, the action is evident. Hayley is simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Out walking her dog Cutter, she witnesses an ominous black helicopter land in her neighbors yard and sees him being whisked away. She wants nothing to do with this. Cutter however, wants to be part of the action. He runs at the men taking her neighbor and she runs after him.Quinn Foxworth is the leader of a black ops group with the task of picking up Hayley's mysterious recluse neighbor. His only option when he's presented with a charging dog and his owner is to take them with him.
Cutter is a dog given "human" aspects. I'm hoping it gets explained along the way of the 8 book series as to why. He's smart and quite taken with Quinn, his men and their mission. Hayley is perplexed by it. She also wants to get out, but trapped literally in the middle of no where,
As the action finally begins half-way through the book, Hayley continues to protect her dog. This leaves her, Cutter and Quinn alone in some very dangerous situations. Justine Davis leads the reader to believe the dog is matchmaking, a cute concept. She lets you know everything the characters are thinking (except for the dog). She has you believe the dog knows these two need to trust one another and fall for one another.
The mystery of who is running the overall operation is only named and not revealed. Perhaps in one of the future books I haven't gotten to yet.

I just finished reading Justine Davis' Operation Midnight (Harlequin Romantic Suspense #1695) and it grabbed me from the first like a high action movie! I loved the way Cutter fit into the story and look forward to more action with this fantastic dog!
Ms. Davis takes a current dangerous situation this country is facing and weaves the story effortlessly through it. You are going to be cheering on the heroes and hoping there are actually brave men and women out there willing to step up to the plate when someone needs them. I'm looking forward to future Cutter's Code stories!
Justine Davis has become one of my favorite authors. She knows exactly how to mix romance with just enough mystery so you cannot put the book down. When I first met Cutter, I thought it was just too fanciful and almost quit the book and then read a few more pages and now cannot imagine a book without this amazing pooch. Love him.
If you have not read any of Justine Davis' books in the Cutter's Code series I highly recommend you try them. This is the first book in a series. Awesome writing. Cutter is a dog. He is inter-twined throughout the stories and makes them quite enjoyable reading. I'm currently reading the fourth book in the series and am just as intrigued as I was after the first three. The author's style of writing is extremely good. Interesting stories, action, suspense and a little humor tossed in. There is some sexual content but if you read any Harlequin Romantic Suspense books you know there always is some. This book is great.
Having been a fan of Justine Davis (Dare) for many years, I had pre-ordered the version of Operation Midnight months ago. I wasn't sure what to expect with a dog having such a a major role in the storyline. I was not disappointed in any way with this book. I am so thankful the book begins a series. I don't want to give any spoilers but you should really read this book-dog lover or not. Strong characters and an equally strong and believable storyline grab you by the throat from the first page. Quinn and Hayley are destined to be together but the path is not easy or safe. The way other characters are introduced just make my mouth water for future books. I find myself pondering "Charlie" and "chomping" at the bit for Rafe's story. I have always loved The Redstone Series. This series is different but no less powerful. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next one.
Cutter's Code book 1
I had read Operation blind Date which is a Cutter's Code book 3 I believe. I enjoyed it and wanted to read more of the Cutter code series so I bought the first book of the series. I was not disappointed in it and still would love to read more. I know that their is at least one other out their that I can read right away.
The suspense of who or what Quinn is for me not their because I read book 3 first. I like the plot. The characters. I really like Cutter he is a dog. A very smart dog.
Cutter chased into the woods and Hayley chased after him. He had been uneasy since a helicopter flew over her home awhile ago. Hayley and Cutter were now on her neighbor's property and she sees the helicopter with no markings on it. She has only seen her neighbor twice before. She see's him being guided out of his house into the chopper by a guy wearing a gun. Then a third man comes out and Cutter runs up to him like a lost friend.
Quinn takes out his gun and Hayley runs out to save her dog. Cutter won't come to her and she tries to leave and hopes he comes with her. Quinn picks up Hayley and sticks her into the helicopter and than picks up her dog too. Then gets in and the helicopter lifts up.
Quinn makes it clear that if she won't behave the dog will go out of the chopper. They fly for hours than refuel and take off for more hours. Hayley has no idea where they are or why. They finally stop at a run down cabin all by itself. Their are four guards and her neighbor. She is not allowed to talk to her neighbor. More threats against Cutter for her to behave.
Cutter gets to go out for patrols and gains the men's respect. He warns Rafe about a rattlesnake he almost steps on. He also finds old paw prints of a big animal. No one can sneak up on them with Cutter around.
Lots of action, drama pretty clean read. Their is one love scene but not graphic. So now I have read two of this series it will be one I will look forward to reading again.
