I really enjoyed reading Never Too Hot by Bella Andre, book 3 of her Hot Shot series. This is Connor's story as he struggles to get on with his life after being severely burned two years ago while fighting to put out a wildfire. He arrives at his grandparent's cabin to be alone and to fix up the place for his brother, Sam's wedding. Instead, he finds out that his grandparents rented the cabin to Ginger, an artist, who also wants to be alone after her disastrous marriage ended. They end up staying there together as they fight their attraction to each other. I was deeply touched by the raw emotions that Connor displayed as he battled the pain and nightmares that still haunted him and the love Ginger showed him. Ginger remained strong whenever Connor needed her, even when he didn't think he was good enough for her. I also enjoyed the secondary characters especially Connor's dad, Andrew and his past love, Izabel. Readers got to learn more about the strained relationship between father and son as well as what happened between Andrew and Izabel. I anxiously waited to learn more about their romance and what happened to tear them apart. I found myself rooting for this couple just as much as Connor and Ginger to finally find their happy ending. This story was more about emotions than suspense and it was fitting given the circumstances.
Hot as Sin, the second installment in the Hot Shots Series, is a story of second chances and never-ending first love. Unlike book one with fire ranging all around the characters, this book highlights the skills and rugged strength both of heart and body of the fire fighter hero as he fights to help the ones he loves.

Sam Mackenzie has been fighting fires for years now and he has learned to never back down from a fight and allow the fire to win. But on his days off he struggles to keep his mind off the past and the life he really wanted. Dianna. She was his one true love and he still doesn't understand why she left. They both were from dysfunctional families and yes their getting engaged when she found out that she was pregnant wasn't ideal. But surely she knew that he loved her? So why then when she miscarried did everything fall apart. He still didn't know.

Dianna Kelley still misses Sam dearly but she didn't trust their relationship. And she needed to make something of herself. Now 10 years later she has managed to rescue her sister from the foster care system and make a very nice life for herself, albeit lonely. That is until it all changes in 24 hours. While visiting her sister in Vail, CO she is involved in a terrible car accident that makes headlines. And within hours Sam is standing in her hospital room wanting to know if she is all right. As if that shock isn't enough her phone rings and she learns the stunning news that her sister has been abducted. Surrounded by wild mountains and knowing she is a city girl, she is forced to except help from the man who still holds her heart. And Sam can't help but help however he can even though being around her again just reminds him and everything he has been missing for so long.

In true Hot Shot style, Sam is a master at helping her conquer the wild terrain as they race to find her sister. And as their adventure meets one obstacle after another the walls around their hearts also begin to come down. As they begin to face the past in order to be able to work together in the present the reasons for being apart seem small compared to the passion between them. As the sparks fly they both can't help but be grateful for a second chance at the love that got away.

Much like the first book in this series, this addition is action packed and full of tender moments where the couple must lean on each other to get through the obstacles in front of them. It was nice that the couple already had quite a bit of history and made the short length of the story and depth of their emotions more believable. The new setting added an interesting change and a beautiful backdrop to a touching reunion of sole mates. This is a story to enjoy again and again.

Where book one and two were filled with adventure and action packed scenes, this story is about the emotional journey of recovery. Taking place two years after the first book, Connor has spent countless hours, blood, sweat and tears trying to regain his life psychically, emotionally and professionally after his terrible accident that left him horribly scared. He escapes to his favorite place, where he spent his summers as a child, to wait out the news of his third and final appeal to regain his firefighter status - hoping that if he can work hard enough on restoring the cabin the time waiting to hear back will be more bearable. But when he arrives he finds that his grandparents have rented out the cabin to a beautiful, strong woman. He is forced to share the cabin and all hopes of hiding are banished due to Ginger's uncanny ability to see everything he has managed to hide from everyone else.

Ginger is a wonderful character who is going through her own self-discovery after her nasty divorce. She recognizes the struggle Connor is going through and goes into their relationship with a good perspective of where it might or might now lead. Ginger's boss and much older best friend adds another level of depth to the story as her story begins to interweave with Ginger and Connor's. Since she has known the family for years, she begins to shed light on some of Connor's family background adding even understanding to what has shaped Connor into who he is. This underlying story line is so well interwoven that you will have a hard time not hoping that Connor and Ginger aren't the only ones that will manage to find their happily ever after.

The passion between Connor and Ginger is amazing and makes you wish for your own lake vacation with a chance to go skinny-dipping. Their relationship develops at a nice pace. Ginger's ability to accept Connor just as he is and not let him push her away was very touching. Eventually Connor is forced to admit his feelings and face that his career is over but when he does he realizes that Ginger is all he ever really needed and just never knew it. This is another great summer read and a touching testament to the sacrifice that firefighters face everyday.
